| The
acquisition target is a platform company in the Chicago
metropolitan area with a strong management team and a
history of growing profitability. The company should
also have advanced systems in place and be utilizing
current technolgies for both operations and marketing.
It is important that the platform company be able to
grow both internally and through strategic acquisitions.
As a result, the product category or industry must have
a national presence, with smaller, unconsolidated
distributors, in diverse geographic markets.
An important attribute of target companies is a
strong marketing and sales organization as demonstrated
through customer service; inside and outside sales
organizations; direct marketing efforts; an established
catalog; and e-commerce capabilities. Lacking any or
several of these attributes is acceptable if the
capabilities exist for their development.
The focus is business to business, industrial type
distribution companies, where value can be added through
services, systems and product sourcing for customers. An
important element of any acquired company is a low
customer concentration and the ability to expand the
customer base.
